Materials and methods 

For the DANMAP 2024 report, population sizes and geographical data were obtained from Statistics Denmark and data on the number of general practitioners from the Danish Medical Association.

The epidemiological unit for pigs and cattle was defined at the individual farm level, meaning that only one isolate per bacterial species per farm was included in the report. The individual flock of broilers was defined as the epidemiological unit, and for food, the epidemiological unit was defined as the individual meat sample. 

For humans, the epidemiological unit was defined as the individual patient and the first isolation per species per patient per year was included for analyses of AMR trends. An overview of all antimicrobial agents registered for humans and animals in Denmark is presented in Table 2.4.
